Forget vs Eject
There are two options for disconnecting a hard drive from Monument. Eject a hard drive will safely remove the hard drive so that it can be connected again. Forget will remove the hard drive from Monument's memory.
Note: If the Primary Drive is "forgot", then all photos, albums, people,
and tags will no longer be available in the app (the content will still be
on the hard drive). This should only be done if a new hard drive is being
connected.
Eject A Hard Drive
- Go to Settings > Hard Drives
- Select the Primary or Backup drive
- Click on Eject
- Click on Eject in the in-app message
- The hard drive will be Inactive until it's connected again
Forget A Hard Drive
- Go to Settings > Hard Drives
- Select the Primary or Backup drive
- Click on Forget
- Click on Forget in the first warning message
- Click on Forget in the second warning message

Just want to be clear. I want to make my #2 Hard Drive my #1 Hard Drive. I then want to replace my #2 with a new (bigger) hard drive. So, do I eject #1 first? Do I have to move my #2 connection? Or after I eject #1, will #2 automatically become the new #1? LOL
@MichaelAScibetta
We are reaching out to you as there are several steps currently involved :)
I also wish to remove my primary drive, keep my backup, and add a new drive to replace the primary. When I attempt to eject the primary, I get "an unexpected error" and the drive remains active. I would also love to know what "are [the] several steps currently involved."
My dad's primary drive failed/corrupted and he's trying to
1. Forget the primary drive (this produces an "unexected error")
2. Convert the secondary drive to the primary (stalls out at 0% indefinitely)
3. Add a new harddrive to be the new backup drive
Is there a proper order of operations to achieve this?
Has anyone found a way to replace a dead primary drive?!
My primary drive died and now I can't remove it and promote the backup drive, but getting the "Unexpected error"..
Completely defeats the entire purpose of having a backup drive.
I'm seriously scared, see other people having the same issue in two years and still no response or update here on it?
